The thing about Sherlock Holmes TV adaptations are that they’re fundamentally different from the books in perspective. The books are told through the biased lens of John Watson, who is Holmes’ friend and thinks highly of him. So the entirety of the books, we’re seeing Holmes through the lens of Watson.

Modern TV and film adaptations can’t do that, because Watson himself is a character that we are seeing in the third person. The camera POV is typically third-person limited, but otherwise shows characters as they are. If there is bias, it typically isn’t towards Watson’s view.

In conclusion, clearly, the only proper modern visual adaptation of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes would be a documentary filmed and narrated by John Watson himself, shaky camera footage and all.
