there’s a Rainbow Rowell book called Fangirl, which is about a girl called Cath moving to college and juggling it along with mental illness, family shit, romance, and her childhood Ending when the last book of her all-time favourite series comes out. the series is supposed to be Harry Potter. like, the whole thing is a barely-veiled nod to the HP fandom. the books are called Simon Snow And The [Thing] of [Thing], he goes to wizarding boarding school in England, and his NEMESIS is a possibly evil member of the aristocracy with a stupid name. so – Cath is a BNF in the Simon Snow fandom, and is finishing her piece de resistance, an epic slash fanfiction called CARRY ON. 

I’m guessing that at some point in the writing process Rainbow got Too Into It, or maybe she saw everyone being low key more into the Simon and Baz Carry On excerpts in Fangirl than the actual plot of Fangirl, because she decided she wanted to actually write something about Simon and Baz. so it’s… not a drarry fic per se, it’s… original fiction? using characters that were intended to be very obviously based on Harry and Draco? lol??? 

also: Rainbow Rowell made a point of saying that Carry On is her original story and NOT Cath’s fanfiction, and I for one think that’s glaringly obvious because it would barely scrape a T on AO3 and we KNOW Cath wouldn’t have gotten that fandom famous if someone didn’t get DICKED TF DOWN
