jean kirschtein is such a good boy. like here’s this kid who had so much potential to be an ass, to live comfortably and safe. instead he sacrificed everything he ever wanted to accept a newer, darker route that he never asked for but ultimately embraced because it seemed, for him, the right thing to do. which would have been doubly hard because jean was never a person who lied to himself or to others. he had no illusions about what he wanted and who he was and what his role was in the grand scheme of things, but he turned all that on its head out of love for his friends and his own nagging moral intuitions after he saw the situation first hand. the same guy who mocked people wanting to join the corps became the man that was all too eager to jump in and help fight annie’s titan. he went from laughing at death to embracing it. he was always too ordinary for the corps but he forced his way in because he knew he couldnt live with himself if he didn’t. in the uprising arc he was sickened by the idea of killing someone and couldn’t bring himself to do it. he leads his friends and is all too quick to apologise when he’s wrong (hange in 84). he knows he wont come out of this alive but he’s still there. when levi announced he would inject erwin, he accepted the decision without challenge even though armin was one of his closest friends. he is one of the only people from the 104th to not have a tragic backstory or dream that inspired them to be there. he is there for those around him, he’s that selfless. armin is revived and he can only look tired and miserable because of everything he’s been through – because unlike EM he cant bring himself to be happy/relieved watching bertholt’s death. jean is so pure and good and i think – even though he, too, is slowly losing his humanity and fast losing his innocence, his hands and conscience bloodier by the day – jean is always consistently trying to do the right thing in the most unselfish way. and that’s probably why isayama likes him so much.

i said this before and i will say it again: for me the most outstanding act of altruism and self-sacrifice is from someone who have everything and yet they decide to offer up everything in the name for the great good.

Isayama said a while back that he thinks Jean would be the better protag and like. Yes, yes, yes, look at this boy ugh. Realize this all took place in like less than 3 months???? Jean is fuxking amazing shining star I love him fuck I weep
