i think.. ppl may not fully appreciate check please as a comic if they havent seen or thought critically abt webcomics as a whole?  because really.  we can argue all day whether or not n ‘deserves’ her kickstarter/patreon money and im not gonna even open that can of beans, but, uh, look at all the other well-known webcomic out there, and you’ll realize that check please is kind of really a diamond in the rough even just in terms of art.

an impartial opinion of someone who reads and enjoys many, many webcomics here (impartial b/c I have no idea what argument posts prompted this one), but the popularity of Check Please! is truly, truly unusual in the world of webcomics. Just thinking about the volume of fanfic that exists for it blows me away! and the fact that there are people criticizing it like that, is most definitely a direct result of it being so popular. Just on tuesday, a kickstarter for another webcomic I read ended with only about 5k more than its goal, (which I thought was a wild success!) and that webcomic is also fully coloured and produced by one person, and has been posting continuously for 10 years! yet does not have the fanbase that Check Please! does.

Ngozi has been working outrageously hard on her comic, and it shows! it definitely shows when comparing the quality of her webcomic to others whose artists are creating their comics while also working a full time job, or going to school, or raising kids. Most webcomic artists make their comics as something fun in their spare time, while Ngozi makes her comics as a job. there’s a huge difference!
