it’s weird when people present bitty as this perfect glowing angel “I Don’t Know How He Does It” starring Julia Roberts type person when he definetly…is not lol. he’s mediocre at school, he procrastinates, he’s shit at expressing serious emotions, and he’s very self conscious. he has trauma from growing up gay in the South, sometimes he judges people too quickly, and he pain clouds a lot to try and ignore what he’s really feeling. ignoring these things to create some good and pure Splenta version of him is …. not good. sometimes i feel like people have a hard time accepting gay characters with like flaws outside of hating themselves or whatever and so idk it makes me feel uncomfortable (and a little shitty?? lmao) when people are like “bitty is neurotypical and perfect and he can do anything on the first try.” is he amazing??? absolutely!! but when you discount what people go through to be amazing, you’re selling them short and not looking at the complexities of the character and understanding the severity of the character’s successes. bitty being in a healthy relationship with jack even though he is closed off (never talks about his father, or what happened that made them move from Georgia), partly due to past trauma, is a huge deal!! that is something to be so proud of him for!!
bitty is a great person but great doesn’t equal perfect. great means he is trying and sometimes he is failing but he keeps going.
